I love everything about Thanksgiving. The family time, the grocery shopping, the food and pies! I even enjoy the last-minute hustle of trying to get the turkey, gravy and mashed potatoes all done at the same time! I have to admit this is my favorite meal of the year for a multitude of reasons. Growing up, we had the entire Thanksgiving meal for our Christmas dinner as well. It is funny how, when someone mentions Thanksgiving dinner, we all know what they are talking about. We may have our own traditions and favorites, but the core meal is universally known by our culture.
Do you have your traditions? A particular food item that you only like prepared a certain way? Do you enjoy dressing up your table to go with the theme of Thanksgiving?
I have to admit I love to do both. My favorite food would have to be the stuffing. I prefer it cooked outside of the turkey so the top browns just slightly and with a nice crust. I also prefer my mother’s recipe from when I was growing up. We always host Thanksgiving at our home, and there are favorites that my husbands brothers love and that my husband and children love and my mother-in-law and I love to cook whatever they want to eat, even if it means we are duplicating several sides. For instance, the stuffing. I always make my stuffing and my mother-in-law makes her stuffing that her sons grew up eating. I also do not mind trying to new versions of sweet potatoes and corn, whereas my brother-in-laws want the traditional frozen bag of corn and plain sweet potatoes with a little bit of marshmallow baked on top. My kids, will eat just about anything. However, their favorites are the green bean casserole, the rolls, dark meat of the turkey and they absolutely love to pull at the wishbone.
A thanksgiving meal at American Serenade would not be complete without a coffee and wine. We have excellent wine choices to go with your favorite Thanksgiving dishes.
I always have a couple of coffee options for my family and guests. We also have quite a few family members that will just stop by for dessert or even just to chat after everything is settled down. We love pies and my mother-in-law is a fabulous baker. I plan to have a regular coffee, probably Minuet, our Organic coffee from Costa Rica brewed. But, I could not let Thanksgiving go without brewing our Harvest Spice coffee. This one is FANTASTIC with pumpkin pie!! Add some whipped cream to your coffee and your dessert!! YUM!
To cap off your evening I recommend a small glass of our Blueberry ice wine. It is a great cordial to have sitting in your living room after dinner. Enjoy it while you are winding down from the festivities or even with those family members or friends that stop by after dinner. Sit in your living room by the fireplace, what a perfect way to end your meal.
Please take this time to have some ‘Grace Time’ with your family and friends. Enjoy their company and this great food! Grace and I wish you and your family a blessed Thanksgiving!!Share
